Peter Island in the News

Peter Island is a Caribbean Gem, Says Lucille Howe

Unlike Richard Branson, not all of us can afford our own island. Fortunately, that isn't a problem on the Peter Island Resort where accommodation is limited to just 52 rooms over 1,200 hectares, and you feel very special. Peter Island itself is the fifth largest island in an archipelago of 60, so a stay here offers precious privacy, whether you're a newlywed, a VIP, or a lover of your own space.

English Rugby Captain Chris Robshaw Escapes to a Caribbean Beach

Rugby is a game of inevitable bumps and bruises - and I experienced my fair share last season in my role as England captain. There was the enormous high of beating the world champions New Zealand at Twickenham in December - but also the painful defeat to Wales in March that cost us both the Six Nations title and the possibility of a Grand Slam. And on a personal note, missing out on selection for the British and Irish Lions tour of Australia was a huge disappointment. So the prospect of an escape to the beach once the season was over was an enticing one - a chance to lick my wounds and recharge my batteries.

10 Hotels that Harness the Weather

The reliable trade winds in the British Virgin Islands make it ideal for first-time sailors. Since 2010, the winds have also helped to generate up to two-thirds of the power at Peter Island, a luxury resort on its own island off Tortola. That’s when the 55-room property installed two 250-kilowatt wind turbines, the first ever in the Caribbean, to help slake its energy needs. Chris Potgieter, the resort’s manager of island engineering, says wind delivers a steadier stream of power than solar would, since the breezes on Peter Island continue to blow long after the sun sets each night.

Are Island Resorts The New Best Place to Host Marathons and Triathlons?

Peter Island Resort & Spa in the British Virgin Islands has created what they're calling an "Island-Athlon," an on-going event in which guests tackle a mini-triathlon course that they've constructed. They have multiple mileage options depending on your level of fitness. The "beginners" challenge includes a half-mile kayak, 5-mile bike ride, and 2-mile run while the "hard-core" challenge is a 1-mile swim, 10-mile bike ride, and 5-mile run. As you see in the photos, the course is pretty freaking scenic. And it got us thinking. If everyday people are willing to travel to cities to compete in massive marathons "just for fun," wouldn't the islands make great destinations for these athletic endeavors?
